The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County’s Run AWAY 5K returns as an in-person event after being held virtually in 2020 and 2021. Registration is now open for the 5K trail run scheduled for Sunday, April 3, 2022, at 7:30 a.m. in West Palm Beach. This trail run raises awareness of recycling and solid waste issues and is hosted in partnership with Resource Depot and Grassy Waters Preserve.
This unique trail run takes runners and walkers through the SWA Greenway Trail System where industry and nature coexist. Participants will trek through the tranquil cabbage palms, cypress hammocks, marshes and lush pine flat woods, with glimpses of Grassy Waters Preserve and Palm Beach Renewable Energy Park.
All pre-registered participants will receive a commemorative race medal and race shirt. Awards will be given to the best times for male and female runners in various age categories. Not a morning person? Register for the Sleep-In Virtual 5K and you can snag some swag too.
Register online with the following options:
- General Registration - $35
- Children 10 and under - $15
- Sleep-in Virtual Run AWAY 5K - $20
For a limited time, participants can save $5 on each adult registration fee by using the promotion code 5OFF5K. Register online by January 7 to receive the discount.
Immediately following the SWA Run AWAY 5K, all are welcome to enjoy self-guided tours of the SWA's award-winning Renewable Energy Facility 2 and LEED Platinum Education Center so families can learn where their trash ends up and how it is disposed.
Proceeds from the run will benefit the nonprofit Resource Depot who has turned waste into wonder for the past 20 years. Resource Depot is the only creative reuse and environmental education center in all of South Florida, filling the need for eco-sustainable and affordable programs and materials for art, education and the creative public.
