COVID-19 Updates

The SWA has been closely monitoring federal, state and local updates regarding the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and taking precautionary measures to keep solid waste workers and county residents safe.
COVID-19 Impacts on SWA Programs and Services

If you have symptoms or been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus, please do not put recyclable items in your recycle bins or donate clothing or personal items to a reuse center. Bag them, securely tie them, and put them in your garbage.

  • Update: 5/26/20 @ 5 p.m.

Garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulk waste collection are operating as scheduled. You can sign up for notifications of changes in My Pick-Up Days.

Whether you are sick, caring for a sick family member or healthy, please securely tie all of your garbage in plastic garbage bags. This additional precautionary measure includes securing all personal hygiene products, used tissues, paper towel, sanitary wipes, face masks, gloves, and similar items in plastic garbage bags. Garbage bags should be tied securely for disposal.

If taking this time at home to clean up or clean out, use your curbside bulk collection for disposal – not an SWA facility. In unincorporated Palm Beach County, bulk item pick up is provided once a week and limited to 3 items per collection day. If you live a city, contact them for bulk item collection.

There are still no in-person recycle bin pickups at this time. If you need a new or replacement recycling bin, call 866-NEW-BINS (866-639-2467) or order online and it will be dropped at your home.

All counties have been designated for Category B (emergency protective measures) under the Public Assistance (PA) program. Eligible applicants for the PA program are state and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations, including hospitals, clinics, and emergency medical providers.
