Pond Cypress

Pond cypress (Taxodium ascendens) is one of two types of cypress trees that grow in southern swamps. They are cone-bearing, like pines. Don't trip on the cypress knees! The purpose of these vertical root extensions  remains a mystery, with lots of speculation.

Did You Know?

Pond cypress trees can grow in swampy areas or in drier landscapes and generally do not grow as tall as bald cypress trees. To learn more about the two types of cypress trees, visit UF IFAS Gardening Solutions.
