Dear Recyclinda,

Where would I properly dispose of a push mower/weed eater?

Busted equipment got you for-lawn?

As any avid recycler might guess, tools and equipment do not go in your blue or yellow bin. However, parts of them can be recovered through the SWA's Home Chemical and Recycling program

Whatever your implement - lawn mower, weed eater, chainsaw, leaf blower - be sure to drain any fluids such as oil or fuel and remove any batteries. Once that's done, the item can be set at the curb on your regular trash day or bulk pick-up day.

Then, bring those fluids and batteries to any of the SWA's seven Home Chemical and Recycling drop-offs. The SWA will recycle what we can and properly dispose of the rest.

Another point to keep in mind - If your equipment is still functioning, you may want to consider donating it to a reuse store.

After all, it doesn't hurt to be green after battling your greenery.
